"Suspicions" Commentary.

Dr. Beverly Crusher has an interest in a new shielding technology developed by a Ferengi scientist and convenes a demonstration for other scientists aboard the Enterprise-D. However, what starts as an exchange of information turns into a murder mystery in the episode "Suspicions."

In this episode of Earl Grey, hosts Justin Oser and Richard Marquez are joined by special guest Patrick Devlin of Warp Five and The Edge to provide a commentary for the episode "Suspicions" from season six of The Next Generation. They discuss Beverly Crusher, metaphasic shielding, the unusual Takaran species, shuttle carpeting, and much more.

"The Wounded"

In the season four The Next Generation episode "The Wounded," we're introduced to the Cardassians, a species that has until recently been at war with the Federation and which will become very important in Deep Space Nine. Captain Benjamin Maxwell of the Phoenix has ordered his ship to carry out attacks inside Cardassian space and the Enterprise-D, along with Cardassian military observers on board the ship, pursue the Phoenix. We also learn more about Chief O'Brien's background and his involvement in the Cardassian War as he tries to deal with what he went through during a traumatic time.

In this episode of Earl Grey, hosts Richard Marquez, Amy Nelson, and Justin Oser discuss the powerful and important episode "The Wounded." We talk about our thoughts on the look of the Cardassian ships, uniforms, and the Cardassians themselves, O'Brien's struggle with his feelings toward a former enemy, and whether Maxwell is more motivated by exposing what the Cardassians are doing or by what happened to his family. We also discuss the theme of racism in the episode and what we learn about Picard's history and his diplomatic skills.

The Lost Episodes, Part I.

There are many scripts, script outlines, and episode and movie concepts that never made it onto the screen on The Next Generation. These lost episodes can provide a fascinating window into what might have been, what characters and concepts ended up being modified and used later, and into the behind-the-scenes writing process.

In this episode of Earl Grey, hosts Richard Marquez, Amy Nelson, and Justin Oser discuss two never-produced episodes of season one of The Next Generation. The script outlines discussed are "The Bonding" (featuring a different concept than the season 3 episode of the same name) and "Terminus." The Lost Episodes is a continuing series that will cover many unfilmed episodes and movie concepts over the course of the seven seasons and four movies of The Next Generation.

"Schisms."

Insomnia. Disturbing memories. Mysterious disappearances. Creepy aliens. The sixth season episode "Schisms" is a frightening hour of television that taps into the fear of being abducted for experimentation by aliens that we're unable to understand.

In this episode of Earl Grey, hosts Amy Nelson and Justin Oser are joined by guest Clara Cook of Primitive Culture to discuss both the scary and the surprisingly funny parts of the episode "Schisms." From Riker's insomnia and bedhead to the creepy holodeck scene to alien clicking sounds to Data's hilariously dry poetry, we talk about what intrigues us about the episode and the many questions that it brings up.
