The Power of Words in TNG.

Star Trek has never shied away from taking advantage of the power of words, from Shakespeare to technobabble to inspirational speeches, and The Next generation is no exception. There have been many moments and episodes that have pushed our vocabulary, introduced us to works of literature, and taught us something new in the process.

In this episode of Earl Grey, hosts Joe Keegan and Justin Oser are joined by guest Shoaib Mirza, Associate Producer of The Edge, to list their three favorite uses of words, language, and communication on The Next Generation. Each participant talks about why the moments discussed are meaningful to them and important to The Next Generation.

Undercover Missions.

Whilst Star Trek has always shown us a positive vision of the future, there have been times when stealth and disguise have been required. Through various planned and forced undercover missions, our heroes have deftly and secretly gone where no Romulan, Cardassian, Mintakan, or Malcorian has gone before - sometimes with mixed results.

In this episode of Earl Grey, hosts Joe Keegan and Justin Oser are joined by guest Christos Giannaris to discuss some of the undercover missions in The Next Generation. The episodes discussed are “Who Watches the Watchers,” “First Contact,” “Unification I and II,” “Chain of Command, Parts 1 and 2,” and “Face of the Enemy."

Kurn.

In "Sins of the Father," we're introduced to Kurn, a stern Klingon exchange officer boarding the Enterprise-D to temporarily serve as first officer. We find out in the course of the episode that Kurn is actually Worf's brother and has brought news of a judgment by the Klingon High Council that will change both of their lives forever. In the course of three episodes of The Next Generation and one episode of Deep Space Nine, Kurn is tested again and again by the dramatic events happening within the Klingon Empire and between the sons of Mogh.

In this episode of Earl Grey, hosts Justin Oser and Joe Keegan are joined by guest Pierre LaRocco to discuss the character of Worf's brother Kurn. The discussion includes his developing relationship to Worf, his changing place in Klingon society, and his development as a recurring character. Each participant talks about Kurn's four appearances with a view to having a deeper appreciation of the character and Klingon society in general.

Deleted Scenes, Part 2.

Scenes that were filmed, but not seen by the audience in the final aired productions are available for every season and movies of The Next Generation. In this episode of Earl Grey, hosts Amy Nelson, Joe Keegan, and Justin Oser talk about 11 deleted scenes from "Evolution," the season 3 opener of The Next Generation. Links to these deleted scenes (none of which are available on the Blu-rays) are included below.

Favorite Star Trek Memorabilia.

Star Trek memorabilia is almost as old as Star Trek itself. Over the last nearly 53 years, there has been a huge variety of Star Trek items collected by fans the world over, from action figures to photos to collectible cards to screen-used props and costumes and everything in between.

In this episode of Earl Grey, hosts Joe Keegan, Amy Nelson, and Justin Oser talk about their three favorite pieces of Star Trek memorabilia that they own. Joe also introduces a new segment on Earl Grey, the Scottish Language Lesson, and the hosts then each choose a piece of Star Trek memorabilia that is tacky or tasteless.
